Medical Care vs. Chirpractic for Acute Low Back Pain
Recently, the Chiropractic Hospital based Interventions Research Outcomes (CHIRO) Study in The Spine Journal published their findings. Patients with acute mechanical low back pain have significant improvements with chiropractic care, but little to no improvements with the usual care they receive from a family physician.
The study published in the 2010 edition of The Spine Journal found that after 16 months of care, patients with medical care saw no improvements in their disability score, were likely to be still on pain medication and saw about zero improvement, even when physical therapy was added. The chiropractic group showed significant improvement in pain and function.
