Chiropractic is “remarkably safe” and is a result of healthcare that avoids invasive procedures, unnecessary surgeries and/or addictive drugs.
Chiropractic is based on a scientific fact that your body is a self-healing organism. The brain, spinal cord and all the nerves of the body control this important function.
The skull protects the brain’s tissues. The moving spinal bones protect the communication pathways of the organs throughout the body. Doctors call this a subluxation. Chiropractic is the science of locating offending spinal structures (the subluxation), and the art of reducing their impact to the nervous system.
Important things to know about Chiropractic:
- It’s natural and works without drugs or surgery.
- It treats the cause of your condition and not just your symptoms.
- It unblocks your nerves so that your body can heal itself.
- It relieves tension and stress, strengthening your immune system.
Chiropractic works by restoring your own inborn ability to be healthy. When under the proper control of your nervous system, all the cells, tissues and organs of your body are designed to resist disease and poor health. Chiropractic care is based on locating and removing interferences to your natural healthy state. A common interference to the nervous system is a misalignment or subluxation of the 24 moving bones of the spinal column.
A misalignment can irritate or impair the function of the nervous system and nerve impulses. With improved spinal function, there is improved nervous system function. Through spinal adjustments and other treatments, your chiropractor can help remove interferences that may be impairing normal health. Chiropractors can also have a positive effect on many health conditions, although most initial visits to chiropractors are for neck pain, lower and upper back pain, and headache relief.
Chiropractors are very well educated. The science of chiropractic requires a special emphasis on anatomy, physiology, pathology, neurology, biomechanics, x-ray, spinal adjusting techniques, and related subjects. This demanding curriculum prepares chiropractic doctors to locate the subluxation and help to correct the resulting nervous system dysfunction. To graduate with a Doctor of Chiropractic degree, each candidate passes the demanding National Board Examination. Then, doctors apply to a governmental or professional licensing board and pass a State Board Examination before being granted the privilege to practice. A chiropractic education never ends. Most chiropractors stay current on the latest scientific research.
Since significant spinal trauma can occur at birth, many parents have their newborns checked for subluxations. As their children grow, childhood activities (like learning to walk or ride a bicycle) can cause spinal problems. Although many fix a fall with a bandage, there still remains unseen injury that should be treated by a doctor.
Many childhood health complaints that are brushed off as “growing pains” can be traced to the spine. Regular chiropractic checkups can identify these problems and help avoid many health complaints that adults experience.
Naturally, chiropractic adjusting treatments are modified to a child’s spine. Most parents report that their children enjoy their chiropractic adjustments and seem healthier than other children.
