Subluxations

Subluxations

As a chiropractic doctor, I’m trained to help you see and understand what’s causing your trouble, and how it can be corrected. The more you know, the more active role you will play in speeding up your recovery.

Ask yourself…

Did you slip and fall? Have you been in an accident? Is your body feeling the effects of drugs, alcohol or pollution? Are you emotionally stressed, worried or fearful?

If any of these factors are present, it’s just possible that the bones in your spine have lost their normal motion or position—or both. The result is called a subluxation, vertebral subluxation or spinal subluxation, meaning that communication to and from your brain is interrupted, causing symptoms and pain in the area supplied by the nerve.

Subluxation Normal Nerve Function

Are you curious enough to wonder how these changes occur?

Here’s a brief definition of subluxation. There are five vertebrae in your lower back, known collectively as the lumbar spine. A disc sits between each vertebral segment, and the soft, pulpy material that makesup the disc is held in place by fibers.

The spinal cord passes along a passageway made up by your vertebrae. The spinal cord connects every cell, tissue and organ of your body to your brain through a pair of nerve roots that branch off from it.

Millions of impulses flow continuously from the brain, along the spinal cord and out to every organ and tissue and back again, keeping a running monitor of how things are functioning.

Nerves control all of your organs and tissues, so if pressure is applied to these nerves because of a subluxation, they may cause weakness, numbness and poor performance.

Likewise, if nerves are rubbed, stretched or otherwise irritated, they can develop hyperactive impulses that cause pain, muscle spasms, overactive organ function and other symptoms of poor health.

Here’s how we treat the spinal problem.

A subluxation treatment plan includes a series of targeted spinal adjustments is used to relieve choked or hyperactive nerves. When the treatment plan is followed, healing is usually achieved.

If you consider adding periodic wellness visits as part of your continuing care, it will stop the occurrence of any new problems before they have a chance to arise.

Always remember, the length of time you wish to receive chiropractic care is up to you. Call or visit our Los Angeles office if you have additional questions about subluxation, and to receive a free chiropractic consultation today.
